The last "Day One"

It was a busy last weekend--we put up 3 cord of firewood, snaked the sluggish drains, hosed out the rain gutters, took out the dock, took out the boat after a fabulous last cruise of the summer on 3 Mile Pond. I left Judd on the Concord bus out of Augusta yesterday--no pics/no tears... must be getting used to being a trail widow.  He's on his way to finish his last 600 miles on the AT: SOBO from Mt. Greylock, Mass. to Harpers Ferry, Virginia. At his last supper (i.e. with BBQed meat and fresh garden veggies,) he asked us to guess how much his pack weighed with food for 5 days (but no fuel or water.) I guessed 37 pounds; Malindi guessed 26 pounds.
The answer: 25 lbs!   Follow up question from me, "what do you weigh?"  213.4 LBS   Well, we'll see about that in a couple months.

Judd's route took him via Newport, RI to visit with brothers so he expects to be on the trail, Day 1 on Sept 9 and make it to Crystal Mountain Campsite. I've already mailed two boxes of resupply: General Delivery to Salisbury, CT and one to Ft. Montgomery, NY. I'm till uncomfortable telling the post master there's nothing flammable, liquid or explodable (whatever those question are)....when I'm sure the high octane whisky nips are one of those things.

I honestly don't know what he's carrying since there are 2 packs and a sleeping bag and a platypus upstairs over the garage in the "hiker's lair."
