Is that your dehydrated face or do you need more prunes?

I have to keep telling myself 12 miles is ok. Even though it seems like all the SOBO have passed me by. Timeswitch, a young Czech fellow NOBO, will be joining me tonight at Wawayanda shelter. Not a lick of water to be had all day. Welcome to NJ.

Chose the wrong vacation (vocation?) if you ".. hate being wet and cold."

On my way to Fingerboard Shelter. Come to find out it's closed for renovations. No roof! So I hike on and stealth camp on the shores of Island Pond amid the ‘no camping’ and ‘no fires’ signs and the debris of a summer of countless tourists where kids learn about what they can do to their bodies and the bodies of others. The winds picking up and it's supposed to rain by midnight. “Torrents” one hiker told me. Thanks, Bud. I hope everything holds together. I hate being wet and cold.

This is a sign I've never seen before! Hiked into Wingdale and found the cheap hotel to dry out in. Then walked about 5 miles to go for groceries at a quick stop. I had to pass Cousins Deli so I had a humongous salad and a pastrami sandwich. But what a hike! On the way out of town I caught two deer playing in a field. Bow season starts Oct 1. I need to find something orange. Also saw a bear. Big and black about 20 yards up ahead went right across the trail. I started making noise as I walk.

Bear mountain is about as busy as Cadillac Mt. Would be on a sunny September Sunday. The difference is that when you hike down to the lake it looks like Balboa Park on a sunny Sunday. Compound that by putting a lodge in, circa 1930's. And it takes on an eerie Yellowstone aura. Then the AT takes you through a zoo. You know how much I like zoos. And there's a lot of revolutionary stuff hereabouts. Fort Clinton and Fort Montgomery , a big chain across the river and West Point just up River. After reading Rabel in Arms I would have thought Benedict Arnold would have had more of a presence than a brief reference “the Arnold-Andre incident”.
