Judd’s latest find: instant Starbucks coffee. It’s still instant but it’s not Sanka. He believes it will really give him a
pick-him-up around "elevensies" on the trail. After the two mornings of rain
here, I can’t image one little hot cup of instant coffee picking me up. He has
way more faith than I do.
Judd has been making the family taste freeze-dried food for
weeks in order to help him decide what to pack or not pack. We voted him down on the Goya corn baby
cereal mixed with powered milk… Even strawberry-instant breakfast did not improve the consistency or flavor—that
of warm, runny, pink sand in your mouth.
Friends and neighbors have been wining and dining Judd all
week (I believe, to fatten him up for the wild Georgia animals and bugs.) Judd-still-no-trail name has been loading up
(up-loading?) his iPhone will all manner of trail-handy aps: “find my phone,” hostels
in Georgia, Post Offices along the Appalachian Trail, etc….
Ever think about something so long, and get distracted from
real work imagining all about it and then commit to it but then start to
cross-examine yourself daily (read
hourly), and then the thinking turns
into worrying and you start to doubt your decision?
