Judd called last night to say he'd had dinner with strangers for his first trail magic:  folks from Rome: the wife hikes, the husband supports.   I figured out eventually, he didn't mean Rome, Italy... but not sure..... is there a Rome, Georgia?  This morning he hit the trail... here's his text from this evening:

  1. There is indeed a Rome, GA. I'm one of the "strangers" (the wife) who was there when Judd preportedly ate his first meal of shrimp and grits at a restaurant in Dahlonega. (pronounced Da-lon-e-ga) We had gone to stay at the Hiker Hostel for the weekend (well, Sun, Mon, and Tues.) and do a little hiking, a little town stuff, and go to Mountain Crossings (the outfitter store). We had a delightful dinner with a "stranger" from Maine who was to begin hiking the next day. Well, we had to give him a taste of southern hospitality and fill him up on some carbs for his hike, didn't we? We certainly enjoyed meeting this stranger, and had such a good time!
